British Dogs May Enjoy Cultivated Meat in 2024

Cultivated meat start-up Meatly, in collaboration with retailer Pets At Home, is introducing some of the first cultivated pet food, with products expected to appear on the British mass market next year - 2024.

“We’re thrilled to announce our rebrand to Meatly, in what marks an exciting new chapter for us as a team and brand. We chose the name “Meatly” because we wanted to celebrate the fact that it is real meat, made in a new way. Our hope is that Meatly will quickly become a household name, loved by pets and pet parents alike, and recognized as the choice for healthy, sustainable, delicious pet food.” - Owen Ensor, CEO of Meatly.

Since its launch last year, Meatly has been working on cultivated meat development, intending to maintain nutritional value. To produce cultivated pet food, the innovative start-up set out to make it from cells taken from a chicken egg. After hitting shelves in the UK, the company plans to sell cultivated pet food in Canada and the US.

“Our pets love meat, but old-fashioned meat, produced through factory farming, requires a vast amount of land, water, and antibiotics and is a major contributor to environmental degradation. We need cultivated meat now more than ever. Pet food is a natural starting point, given the excitement among consumers. We’re thrilled to be at the heart of the future of meat production in the UK.” - Ensor.
