Job Growth in the Alternate Protein Sector

The alternative protein industry has shown resilience with a steady number of monthly job openings in North America over the past year. The industry has seen a notable increase in positions within Food Safety, Food Science, and Marketing & Sales. At the same time, roles in HR & Administration have decreased, speculated to be because of internal restructurings. Food Science roles currently represent 16% of all open positions, with Marketing, Sales, Brand, and Business Development roles making up 30% of the job market. Logistics and Manufacturing positions have remained stable during this period.

In terms of hiring, Meati and Prime Roots have created the most job postings over the last year, but current openings are spread across various companies. California remains the primary hub for alt protein jobs, particularly in the San Francisco Bay Area, which accounts for over 60% of the state's positions. Other significant hiring markets include New York, the Greater Chicago Area, and the Greater Boston Area. Although Canada has seen growth in alternative protein jobs, its market size remains much smaller than that of the U.S., with just over 30 new jobs posted in the past 30 days compared to over 500 in the U.S.
