Shiok Meats has announced the production costs of its cultivated shrimp are now just $50 per kg, a sharp decrease from the production costs of $7,000 per kg the product had just two years ago. The Singapore-based company plans to commercially launch their seafood in 2023. Shiok Meats is the world’s first cultivated crustacean meat company and Southeast Asia’s first cultivated seafood company and last year acquired Gaia Foods, Southeast Asia’s first cultivated red meat company. Shiok Meats was co-founded by one of WhatisCultivatedMeat.com’s advisors Dr. Ka Yi Ling.
